Imperial announces today the Tsotsorkov Scholarship, made possible thanks to a gift from the Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation.

The new scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year is open to undergraduate students in the Faculties of Engineering, Natural Sciences and Medicine who have a significant connection to Bulgaria. The selected Tsotsorkov Scholar will receive financial support to cover the cost of their tuition fees, and support towards living costs.

The Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation’s gift contributes towards the College’s efforts to increase philanthropic gifts towards scholarships and enable greater access to an Imperial education for all.

The scholarship was conceived by Dimitar Tsotsorkov, Chairman of the Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation. Mr Tsotsorkov was introduced to Imperial by Victoria Entwistle, an Imperial Venture Mentoring Service (IVMS) mentor and Imperial Enterprise Lab Expert-in-Residence who has supported dozens of Imperial entrepreneurs over the last four years.

“The Tsotsorkov Scholarship will provide a student with a connection to Bulgaria to reach their full potential and will ensure our community remains global and outward looking in perspective.” Professor Maggie Dallman OBE Vice President (International)

Professor Maggie Dallman OBE, Vice President (International) said:  “At Imperial, we want to attract the best and brightest students from all backgrounds and to ensure they have the financial security to thrive during their time here. The Tsotsorkov Scholarship will provide a student with a connection to Bulgaria to reach their full potential and will ensure our community remains global and outward looking in perspective. We couldn’t be more grateful for the support of the Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation.”

The Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation’s goals are to improve the wellbeing of Bulgarians by supporting culture, talent development, promoting innovation and achievement in education and healthcare, and by helping disadvantaged children.

“This scholarship donation is a heartfelt tribute to the profound impact that quality education had on my life, and a commitment to empowering future generations connected to Bulgaria to flourish in their pursuits.” Dimitar Tsotsorkov Chairman of the Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation

Mr Tsotsorkov said: "Having been nurtured in the vibrant intellectual milieu of London, I am forever indebted to the city that played a pivotal role in shaping my journey. This scholarship donation is a heartfelt tribute to the profound impact that quality education had on my life, and a commitment to empowering future generations connected to Bulgaria to flourish in their pursuits. May this gesture light the way for promising individuals to forge their own remarkable paths, while always staying connected to their roots and remembering to give back."
