The Pure Mathematics Section in the Department of Mathematics is seeking applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position starting October 1st 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. Further information can be found in the Departmental website.

 

Duties and responsibilities

You will work in an area of Pure Mathematics. Preference may be given to candidates with expertise in proof formalisation. You will undertake a self-directed program of research and scholarship at a level commensurate with the current standards of excellence in the Department of Mathematics and Imperial College. Your role will involve lecturing undergraduate and post-graduate courses, supervising PhD students, and managing staff such as Research Associates. You will promote the reputation of the Department, and the College, through scientific meetings and other activities.

Essential requirements


  • Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Mathematics or a closely related discipline

  • Be able to demonstrate ability to produce independent research and will have developed the skills to take a more active role in teaching and supervision

  • Research interests in an area of Pure Mathematics. Preference may be given to candidates with expertise in proof formalisation.

  • Ability to conduct a personal research programme at the highest level

  • An excellent record of research, evidenced by a portfolio of research publications commensurate with career stage

  • Experience, or clear potential, of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level across a range of subjects in Pure Mathematics

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to interact effectively with the broad range of research expertise in the Department of Mathematics, bringing together mathematical links to develop exemplary research programme

The salary range for a Lecturer is £66,221 – £75,184 per annum (effective from 1 August 2023 until further notice, for London and Silwood Park).

 The salary range for a Senior Lecturer is £72,071 – £75,184 per annum (effective from 1 August 2023 until further notice, for London and Silwood Park).

The College is currently trialling a Work Location Framework until early 2023. Hybrid working may be considered for this role and the role holder may be expected to work 60% or more of their time onsite, with 40% the minimum time spent onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
